PREP BASEBALL: Lake City pulls away in completion of suspended game

POST FALLS — Lake City’s Mark Holecek broke the game open with a three-run double in the top of the sixth inning as the Timberwolves went on to beat the Post Falls Trojans 16-5 in the completion of an Inland Empire League that was suspended due to darkness on April 23.

Lake City scored once and led 5-4 with one out in the top of the sixth when the game was suspended last week. The T-Wolves scored six in the sixth and six more in the seventh.

Jake Dannenberg and Cooper Smith each had a two-run double in the seventh for Lake City (17-5, 14-4 IEL), which clinched the league title with a sweep of Coeur d’Alene on Thursday.

Isaac Ziegler and Gabe Diamond had two RBIs each for Post Falls (11-9, 8-9), which plays at Lakeland in the conclusion of a suspended game today at 4 p.m.

RATHDRUM — Raiston Ellwood had a three-run double in the fifth inning of the second game for the Hawks, who were swept in an Inland Empire League doubleheader by the Bears at Gorton Field.

Lakeland (9-12, 4-11 IEL) will face Post Falls in the conclusion of a suspended game today at 3 p.m.

Seeds were already set for the 4A Region 1 tournament prior to Thursday's play. 

On Monday at the Moscow School District Community Playfields, the second-seeded Hawks will face third seed Sandpoint in a loser-out game at 3 p.m.,  and the winner advancing to face top-seeded Moscow (15-7, 11-5) at 5 p.m. in the first game of a best-of-3 game championship series.
