ENVIRONMENTAL DIRECTOR Kootenai Tribe of Idaho P. O. Box 1269, Bonners Ferry, ID SALARY: Depending on qualifications CLOSE: May 4, 2018 or until filled This position is located at the Kootenai Tribe of Idaho's Tribal Headquarters near Bonners Ferry, Idaho. Introduction: The Environmental Department has projects that encompass strategic environmental health planning, integrated resource management, air quality monitoring and data management, pesticide exposure, solid waste management, and Kootenai Valley Resource Initiative (KVRI) assistance. The projects are either Tribally-specific or have components that involve community-based/ collaborative decision making with outside agencies. General Summary of Duties: The Environmental Director is a full-time position. Under the direction of the Tribal Council, the Environmental Director administers the Tribal Environmental program. This involves working with Tribal Council to identify environmental needs and conduct strategic planning in order to identify goal and objectives. Planning 2-3 years ahead to identify appropriate resources needed to address Tribal environmental concerns and recommends to Tribal Council the appropriate strategy for obtaining needed funds. Writes and administers the federal grants that support the program. Prepares grant reports, monitors the budget, authorizes approved grant expenditures and takes corrective action if grant related activities are not meeting performance standards. Supervise employees to ensure that grant tasks are being accomplished on schedule and within budget. Meet with federal, state and local agencies to further the long term environmental goals of the Kootenai Tribe of Idaho. Review government regulations, reports, and studies to makes recommendations to Tribal Council about actions needed to protect the environmental health of the Kootenai people. Must have a degree in Environmental Management or related field. A candidate with a Masters Degree preferred.
