LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL

State playoffs

* MAJORS (age 11-12)

Post Falls 7, Northwest Ada 5: At the Charles F. McDevitt Youth Complex in Meridian, Post Falls jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning and held on in Game 1 of the best-of-3 state playoffs.

Kody Kolden hit a two-run double and Brock Zeller hit a two-run single in a four-run fourth inning as Post Falls went up 5-0. Jake Shelton had two hits. Quin Bennett struck out nine in four innings, and hit a solo homer in the sixth.

Game 2 is today at 11 a.m. PDT and Game 3, if necessary, would be Sunday.

The winner advances to the Northwest Regional in San Bernardino, Calif. Post Falls qualified for regionals in 2009.

* AGE 10-11

North Boise 12, Hayden 1: At the Charles F. McDevitt Youth Complex in Meridian, District 1 champion Hayden fell to the District 2 champs in the first game of the best-of-3 state playoffs.

Game 2 is today at 11 a.m. PDT and Game 3, if necessary, would be Sunday.

* JUNIORS (age 13-14)

Post Falls vs. North Boise, ppd., rain: Game 1 in the best-of-3 state playoffs was rescheduled for 10 a.m. today at Bret James Memorial Field in Post Falls. Game 2 will follow at 2 p.m. with Game 3, if necessary, on Sunday.

SOFTBALL

Friday's games at the 16-and-under "A" regional at Ramsey Park were rained out.

The Northwest Wildfire, the lone local team entered in the 12-team event, opens today at 10:30 a.m. vs. the winner of the 8:30 a.m. game between the Tigard (Ore.) Blast '96 and the Capital Lady Outlaws of Olympia, Wash.

The championship game is now scheduled for Sunday at 11:30 a.m., with the if-necessary game to follow. The winner advances to the Hall of Fame tournament in Oklahoma City next June.
