Medical facility planned for west side of Post Falls

POST FALLS - A medical facility that's nearly 8,000 square feet is planned for the west side of Post Falls near the former Burger King.

According to a building permit that was recently issued through the City of Post Falls, owner Pleasant View Real Estate Holdings is planning to construct a facility valued at $714,803 at 4171 W. Expo Parkway near the Pleasant View interchange north of Interstate 90.

The name of the project is Pleasant View Surgery Center, according to the site plan review notice, but Russell Cornell, Post Falls' building official, said an outpatient clinic is actually planned.

"They operate this type of building/business in various places nationwide, using a standardized model for wood frame construction," Cornell said. "It could turn into an office building ... ."

Chris Urban, a principal in the project, declined to comment until this fall after construction is well underway or completed.

According to a website for Pismo Beach, Calif.-based SurgCenter Development, Urban is a doctor and development principal for the company.

Information such as how many employees will work at the facility and what services will be offered haven't been released. City officials said they are also unaware of such information.

"There are two operating areas and screened off recovery areas," Cornell said of the plans.

Cornell said he was told that the site was chosen because it can serve people and doctors in both Kootenai County and Spokane.

Jim Watson, developer of the Expo project where the building will be located, declined to comment, citing a request from Urban.

Brinkmann Constructors, headquartered in Chesterfield, Mo., is the contractor for the single-story project, according to the permit. H2 Engineering and Surveying in Hayden has also worked on the project. The site plan was approved earlier this summer.

City officials said they hope the project will lead to another medical corridor in Post Falls and it should spruce up the west side that has begged for economic development.

"Now that we are running out of dirt on the east side, maybe this will enhance a second medical corridor on the west side," Mayor Clay Larkin said. "I have told Mr. Watson that we need to make medical services our niche. We are glad to see the medical community expand into the west side where there is plenty of land still available."
