IB: Exactly what is objectionable?

Print Article

I didn't see anything in The Press about the school district's community chat on Monday night, so I would like to comment.

I would like to congratulate the IB Diploma Candidates from Lake City High School who spoke. Every one of you spoke with eloquence, wisdom and intelligence beyond your years. Your testimonies were powerful and spoken from the heart. If a program is producing such amazing, motivated and intelligent students, what is the problem?

It's clearly NOT finances, as the opposition claims. Of an annual general fund of $58 million, the IB program costs the school district $38,000. That is LESS THAN .001 percent of the annual budget!

It's clearly NOT because the program is anti-American or anti-Patriotic, as the opposition claims. One of the 19 speakers who spoke in support of IB was a graduate of West Point Military Academy and served in Iraq and Afghanistan and one of the IB students gave a heart felt speech that it is his dream to go to West Point and serve his country because he "is so proud to be American."

It's clearly NOT that the IB program has a "liberal agenda." One of the IB students who is bound for college at an IVY league school, expressed her "deep roots of conservatism" and even quoted her "hero," Ronald Reagan.

The Anti-IB activists had the same people speaking out again about the cost, IB's falsely perceived connection to the UN (the connection of IB to UNESCO is the same connection shared by The Red Cross, Boy Scouts of America, YMCA and other worldwide NGO's. You can find it on UNESCO's website) and the "liberal agenda of critical thinking."

One of the five Anti-IB speakers, who is clearly a strong anti-IB activist, "spoke" (actually shouted) and pointed at the IB students and said, "YOU ARE ALL IDIOTS, YOU ARE ALL FAILURES, EVERYONE OF YOU IB KIDS ARE! SORRY TO BE SO BLUNT, BUT I'M FREAKING FRUSTRATED AND I HAVE TO PEE! WHAT ABOUT EDUCATION FOR ALL THE OTHER STUDENTS IN THE DISTRICT? WE'VE GOT JAPS BUILDING NUKES DOWN SOUTH OF DALLAS!"

So what DO the anti-IB activists have against the IB program?
