RATHDRUM - Vandals wreaked havoc on Rathdrum on Tuesday night, causing an estimated $3,000 in property damage to a Chinese restaurant and at least five vehicles, likely with a pellet or BB gun, police say.
"We're looking for witnesses or other victims," Rathdrum police Chief Kevin Fuhr said.
The owner of the Wah Hing restaurant, 15512 Highway 41, reported at 8:30 p.m. that the front glass door had been damaged while the business was open.
"The outside pane was broken," Fuhr said. "If it was a bullet, it would have been worse."
On Wednesday, police received five additional reports of vehicle windows that had been shot with likely the same type of weapon.
"The calls were received from different areas of the city and were not focused in one specific location," Fuhr said.
Other areas where damage occurred include Buffalo Grass Street, Majestic Street, Fourth, Division and Westwood Avenue. Fuhr said in some cases the windows were shattered and in others cracked.
"It appears somebody was doing this after dark from a vehicle," Fuhr said.
No items were taken from the vehicles.
No suspect or vehicle descriptions have surfaced, Fuhr said.
Those with information are urged to call Rathdrum Police at 687-0711.
"If anyone saw a suspicious vehicle driving around on those streets that night, we'd like to follow up," Fuhr said.
