Nominees for North Idaho sports awards announced

Affeldt will be guest speaker at Saturday’s banquet at Cd’A Inn

COEUR d’ALENE — High school and college nominations for the 54th annual North Idaho Sports Banquet were announced. The awards will be presented on Saturday at the Best Western Plus Coeur d’Alene Inn.

The banquet will begin at 5:30 p.m., with the induction of former Coeur d’Alene High softball coach Larry Bieber, Lewiston grad and former Moscow coach Sally Greene, Idaho football player Marvin Washington, Idaho football player and wrestler Bob McCray, former coach Bob Squires, as well as the 1964 Kellogg High boys basketball team, coached by Don Haynes.

Guest speaker for the evening will be Jeremy Affeldt, a Spokane native who pitched 14 years of major league baseball, retiring in 2015. Affeldt is a three-time World Series champion, all coming with the San Francisco Giants.
