Post Falls girls, Leonard, Magee shine at Sweeney

LEWISTON — Melody Kempton won in both the triple jump and high jump for the Post Falls girls, who claimed the team championship at the season-opening Sweeney Invitational on Saturday in Lewiston.

Kempton also ran a leg on the school’s winning 4x200 meter relay team as the Trojans topped Coeur d’Alene by 12 points 120-108 for the team title.

“It was a good all-around team performance,” Post Falls coach Wade Quesnell said. “The young kids stepped up and had a great day.”

Grady Leonard of Coeur d’Alene swept the shot put and discus and Zac Magee won in the 200 and 400 for the Vikings, who finished third.

Lewiston’s boys won the team title.

LAPWAI — Coeur d’Alene Charter sprinter Brooklyn Cunningham finished third in the 100-meter dash, 200 and long jump, helping the Panther girls to a sixth place finish in the Central Idaho Invitational at Lapwai High.

Deer Park swept team titles.
