COEUR d’ALENE — Summer is too short to be spent dealing with boat troubles.

"It's amazing today how hard it is to get parts," said Duane Hagadone, a lifelong Lake Coeur d'Alene boating enthusiast. "When your boat breaks down in the middle of July, you don't want to wait a month to get parts."

The Hagadone Marine Center campus in Coeur d'Alene just opened its mega service center on Thursday, Hagadone Marine Group president Craig Brosenne said. The service center will ensure that even when a boat is acting up, repairs won't eat up the whole summer.

"Our goal by say, June, we’ll have close to $1 million worth of parts, so if you have a breakdown, within a day or so we can get you back on the water," Hagadone said. "I was born and raised on this lake. It’s one of the most beautiful boating lakes in the world, and we wanted to make sure we had the ultimate marine sales and service facility."

Hagadone spoke to a crowd of more than 1,000 guests who came to the Hagadone Marina Grand Opening Celebration early Saturday evening to wander through the 36 maintenance bays and admire some impressive boats on display.

The Hagadone Marine Center campus now boasts more than 50,000 feet of maintenance space where mechanics are ready seven days a week to fix everything from engine problems to fiberglass repair. The project was launched two years ago and the construction took nine months to complete.

"We brought in 2,500 truckloads of dirt to be able to get this facility to where we could use it," Hagadone said. "We put in special foundations and footings so these buildings would be on solid ground. It's no question the most expensive job that I've ever been around, but we've got to do it right. We're here for the long haul."

Dennis Alviso attended the party with friends. He was visiting from his home state of California.

"This is one of the finest facilities I’ve ever seen, and I own boats in San Diego," Alviso said.

Alviso's friend, Heidi Gifford of Coeur d'Alene, said she was impressed by Hagadone's generosity.

"This is fantastic," she said. "He did a fantastic job, but you know what? He always does a fantastic job."

Brosenne said he was amazed by the support shown by the boating community members who came out to tour the facility.

"We have the very best marinas, 1,000 slips, we store 1,550 boats, we have the best boat brands, and we weren’t quite getting it with service. We just didn’t have the capacity to keep up,” he said. “Now, we’ve overdone it and built a premium service facility to keep up and service our customers better. That's what it’s all about, taking care of them and doing a great job."

The Hagadone Marine campus, located at 1000 S. Marina Drive on Blackwell Island, is also now home to the wood boat building facility that was previously in Post Falls.

"When you have a good boat and it's running right, there's nothing like being on Lake Coeur d'Alene," Hagadone said.
