Roger Earl Wallace, Jr. was charged with third-degree assault after allegedly attacking an officer early Sunday morning near Hitt Street and East Broadway.
At approximately 1:43 am, another man told two officers that Wallace, 28, attacked him, according to the probable cause statement. The two officers approached Wallace and told him to stop and face a wall.
Wallace then "responded by punching Officer D.D. in the face," according to the probable cause statement. Police said he then continued to resist as the officers attempted to restrain him. After they transported Wallace to the police department, he spat in the other officer's face, police said.
Wallace has previous convictions, including other forms of assault, endangering the welfare of a child, discharging a firearm while intoxicated and possession of up to 35 grams of marijuana, according to the probable cause statement.
The court set Wallace's bond at $20,000, his counsel status hearing for Nov. 8 and his case review for Nov. 29.
