Missouri junior Kevin Puryear said last month that people didnít take the 2016-17 menís basketball team, which averaged an estimated attendance of just 5,995 fans per game and slumped to a 8-24 record, seriously.
A lacking fan presence wonít be an issue this year. Season tickets for Missouri menís basketball are officially sold out, with student ticket sales doubling from 2016 and public season ticket sales reaching a Mizzou Arena record with 9,572, MU announced today.
The 15,600 season ticket packages sold outnumber the 15,061 capacity of Mizzou Arena, but the athletic department has a tradition of overselling student packages because of frequent no-shows.
Missouri Athletics announced total sales of student ticket packages at 6,028 ó the most sold since the 2013-14 season and more than double last yearís 3,008 packages.
ďOur home-court advantage has the potential to be tremendous, so weíll need Mizzou fans night in and night out,Ē Missouri coach Cuonzo Martin said in a statement.
Missouriís last sold-out menís basketball game was March 5, 2013, when the Tigers embarrassed Arkansas and former Missouri coach Mike Anderson with a 93-63 blowout.
