IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) An Idaho Falls man has been charged with killing his 9-month-old son last year after the autopsy ruled the death a homicide.

Robert Lawrence Saad Sr. was arrested on Friday and charged with first-degree murder for the September 2016 death of Robert Saad Jr., the Post Register reported .

The 30-year-old father called police and reported his son had stopped breathing, claiming the baby had fallen and hit his head, according to charging documents. The baby was taken to an Idaho hospital, and then transferred to a Salt Lake City hospital where he died a few days later.

The baby had fractures on the back of his skull and on his left arm, and he had bruising on his back. Officials at both hospitals said the injuries were not consistent with the father's story, according to the documents.

Two doctors from the Utah hospital and the chief medical examiner at the Utah Department of Health said it would have required extreme force to cause the fracture, according to the documents.

The death was ruled to be from an anoxic brain injury due to lack of oxygen caused by blunt force injuries to the head, according to the April autopsy report.

Jordan Crane, Saad's public defender, didn't immediately return a call from The Associated Press on Wednesday.
