The state Board of Education voted to fire commissioner Margie Vandeven Friday morning after a months-long push by Gov. Eric Greitens to stack the board with appointees who would vote for her removal. Greitens’ maneuvering had previously elicited outraged responses from elected officials and nearly every major education group in the state.

Columbia hosted an opioid summit focusing on strategies to combat the opioid epidemic in Missouri. Speakers discussed the effectiveness of St. Louis County’s prescription drug monitoring program and the use of medication-assisted treatments and harm reduction strategies.

Veterans United opened a new facility that includes wellness benefits for employees, such as a mind-body relaxation studio with yoga classes, a game room, coffee bar and outdoor patio. The company is the fourth-largest employer in Boone County and emphasizes culture and enhancing the lives of its employees.
