The Columbia College men's and women's basketball teams both emerged victorious over Hannibal-LaGrange in a Thursday doubleheader at the Southwell Complex.
The No. 6 men's team defeated the Trojans 95-62 to improve to 13-1 on the season and 5-1 in American Midwest Conference play. The No. 16 women's team won in equally dominant fashion, 91-41, to improve to 8-5 on the season and 5-1 in the AMC.
Senior forward Nathan Biggs led the men's team with 21 points in 24 minutes of play; senior Hank Matthews added 12 points, and junior Darrick Ellis added 10. Lucky Ogbomo, a senior forward, collected a team-high 13 rebounds.
For the women's team, junior guard/forward Sarah Walters led the Cougars with 21 points in 18 minutes. Junior guard Morgan Brandt added 13 points, while sophomore forward Raegan Wieser had 10 points, and Jordan Alford grabbed a game-high seven rebounds.
Both of the Cougars' teams will travel to St. Louis to face AMC foe Harris-Stowe State University on Saturday. The women's team will open the doubleheader at 1 p.m., and the men's team will follow with a 3 p.m. game against the Hornets.
Battle boys basketball advances to Linn Invitational final
The Battle boys basketball team defeated Fatima 70 to 50 on Thursday in the Linn Invitational semifinal.
Senior Trae Meny led the Spartans in scoring with 20 points. Sophomore guard Maricus Grant was second on the team with 13, while senior forward Alex Smith added 12, and freshman guard Cachao Gianquinto posted 11.
Battle will play Eugene High School, which defeated Carnahan High School 57-55 on Thursday, at 8:30 p.m. Friday in the Linn Invitational championship game at Linn High School.
Tolton boys basketball falls to Upper Arlington in Great 8 Classic
The Tolton boys basketball team suffered its second loss of the season, 71 to 48, at the hands of Upper Arlington in the Great 8 Classic in Jefferson City.
The Trailblazers fall to 4-2 on the year and will play Jefferson City, which lost to Tennessee's Craigmont High School 59-54, at 5:30 p.m. Friday in the Great 8 Classic consolation semifinal.

Hickman 41, Blue Springs South 30 (Girls State Farm Classic at Helias High School)
Junior forward Emma Chapman led Hickman with 28 points. The Kewpies will face Jefferson City in the Girls State Farm Classic at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Helias High School
