Why are you running for office?
I believe Hayden Lake is a truly special community with great history and heritage. If elected, I will work to preserve and enhance the characteristics that have made Hayden Lake a wonderful community.
What do you see as the three biggest issues you'll face?
I think the biggest challenge facing our community is the pressure from growth outside our municipal boundaries. This growth has increased the traffic through our community. The traffic impacts the quality of life of our residents and also increases the costs to maintain our roadways. Based on the results of the community survey we completed during the comprehensive plan evaluation, a large majority of the residents like Hayden Lake the way it is and want it to stay that way. If elected, I will work to minimize the effects of growth and maintain the quality of life in the City of Hayden Lake.
If elected, what steps will you take to resolve these issues?
The tax levy rate for the City of Hayden Lake is one of the lowest in the State of Idaho and I believe it should stay that way. However, with limited funding, we will need to seek outside funding through grants, and partner with the other agencies in our area to address the impacts of growth. Specifically, we will need to work with Lakes Highway District, the Kootenai Metropolitan Planning Organization and the Idaho Transportation Department for funding options to address badly needed maintenance and repairs to our roadways.
What specific skills or experience qualify you for this job?
I have seven and a half years experience as a city councilman to help me understand the municipal process. Also, my background in engineering helps me evaluate the infrastructure demands on a community. Having worked with many of the county agencies over the past 21 years affords me the understanding of how beneficial it is to work with groups in a cooperative fashion to solve problems and reduce costs.
Why should voters elect you, rather than an opponent?
I believe we each have a responsibility to give back to our community, and with my professional background and experience in community service, I feel I am uniquely qualified to serve the citizens of Hayden Lake.

Community Service: Timber Plus board member, Senior Center board member and volunteer, past Community Action Partnership board member.
How many years as a resident of your city?
I was born and raised in St. Maries leaving at the age of 18 for four years in the Navy. Following service, I returned to St. Maries for nine years. After working outside of the state, I retired and returned to St. Maries in 1999.
Marital Status: My wife Karolyn and I have been married for 52 years.
Family: My wife and I have two daughters, Vicki and Connie. We have eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Hobbies: I enjoy hunting elk and deer, fishing the St. Joe River, and camping all over North Idaho.
Why are you running for office?
Working for the residents of St. Maries is an honor. Managing the day to day operations of the city is both challenging and rewarding. Our city employees and police department are dedicated to making our town a great place to live, they make my job easy. I want to ensure our city continues to grow during these difficult times.
What do you see as the three biggest issues you'll face?
Declining revenue and increasing costs. The City of St. Maries Wastewater Treatment Plant must be upgraded to meet EPA requirements, and the Water Treatment Plant will require DEQ mandated improvements.
If elected, what steps will you take to resolve these issues?
We will continue to work within the budget to provide the best possible service to the residents of St. Maries. Water and sewer reserve accounts will enable us to complete the upgrades. Together, the Council and I will work through these challenging economic times knowing that it will be at least one more year before things turn around.
What specific skills or experience qualify you for this job?
In the eight years as mayor I have become familiar with the laws and limitations of city government. Prior to that, I worked for 20 years as a manager with the Department of Defense at McClellan AFB. Both jobs have required good supervisory skills to keep everything running smoothly.
Why should voters elect you, rather than an opponent?
Being retired, I have the opportunity to dedicate most of my time to City business. When not in the office, I am available by cell phone and I can respond immediately to unexpected matters. I have a good working relationship with other agencies and together with the County and State have successfully completed several major projects.

Why are you running for office?
The reason I am running for office is because I would like to serve the city I love, be a full time mayor and have an open door policy to everyone including city taxpayers that live outside the city owning property within the city as well as all city tax payers.
What do you see as the three biggest issues you'll face?
Three of the biggest issues that I see need changing include the city pool, the pump station on the St. Joe River needs to be up and running within two years, and the city streets need to be fixed. The pump station will be the backup water supply for the city. Also, any old projects need to be finished so we are able to concentrate on the tasks at hand.
The pool is currently being worked on by the council and the mayor. The money needs to be made available in order for the pool to be fixed. The pump station has to be pumping within two years according to the permit. I will see to it that we get this done with the help of the council. Lastly, the streets need to be repaved. I will look for grants and do what is necessary in order to get things started.
What specific skills or experience qualify you for this job?
I am involved in several committees and help out

locally which give me experience to qualify for this position. I have been in business and have been able to maintain a good budget. I have been auditor for the Eagle Lodge and also I spent four years at the City Hall auditing the monthly bills. I have been on the council for five years. I belong to the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC), Wildfire Urban Interface Committee (WUI), and the Benewah County Multijurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Committee.
Why should voters elect you, rather than an opponent?
Voters should elect me because I have the time to be a full time mayor and I am the only one that has been here all of my life. All the candidates are good people, but I feel I can get all the issues resolved and projects finished. I have the knowledge to write up grants as I completed one for the Sheriff's Office and received a new boat with the help from Gala Muench from Harrison. If grants need to be worked on I have the knowledge to complete them.
Tami Holdahl
Birth Date: May 22, 1959
Profession: Sergeant with the Coeur d'Alene Tribal Police Department
Public Service: Served on City Council (appointed first then elected)
Community Service: For 16 years Advanced EMT. I have also spent many years coaching youth sports and volunteering in our schools. Giving back to this community is easy, and I remain active in my volunteer hours through coaching youth in sports, The Humane Society, Chairman of the Easter Egg Hunt, Paul Bunyan Days, and our church.
How many years as a resident of your city: 48 years
Marital status: Married, 32 years
Family: My husband Don, three grown children and six grandchildren.
Hobbies: Running, attending good rock concerts, spending time with my family, decorating my house for the holidays (and I mean all of them)
Why are you running for office?
I am running for mayor because I truly believe I can make a difference. Growth is coming; how we handle it is the key. This is my home; I love it here. I believe we need a strong city leader, one who cares about the well-being of St. Maries. I am that person.
What do you see as the three biggest issues you'll face?
We are faced with many challenges in our little town, how to maintain its charm and at the same time plan for the issues that will accompany the inevitable growth. Some the issues facing our new city council are realistic affordable housing, upgrading water/sewer systems, and improving roads. I want St. Maries to be a progressive community for all the generations to come.
If elected, what steps will you take to resolve these issues?
We need to deal with each of these issues with our eye on the future. Concerning water/sewer, we should have every user metered. It is only fair that citizens pay for what they use. We would be able to manage our water better if we had a good handle on where it is all going. We need to be in compliance with the state. I believe that we need to make the first step in upgrading our streets. Our streets need to be put on a rotating maintenance schedule, improving a handful each year. Housing is a tough one; we have taken the steps to identify the need.
Next is the hard part, finding the money to fund public housing. It will not be easy in these tough economic times. I welcome any suggestions the people of St. Maries might have. It will take all of us to make this work.
What specific skills or experience qualify you for this job?
Working alongside the people to this city has been and will continue to be one of the best experiences anyone could ever have. These are hardworking people. I am not afraid of hard work; I am willing to roll up my sleeves and pitch in wherever needed. Serving on the City Council has given me some insight to how things work; I believe I can make them work better. I am a great listener; my door is always open.
Why should voters elect you, rather than an opponent?
"A good leader makes people feel that they're at the very heart of things, not on the periphery. Everyone feels that he or she makes a difference in the success of the organization. When that happens, people feel centered, and that gives their work meaning." Warren G. Bennis
I want to bring this kind of leadership to the City of St. Maries. When choosing our next mayor, consider some of my qualities: Capable, courageous, consistent, innovative, understanding, caring, conscious, creative, cooperative, integrity, and last but not least I have a sense of humor.
Dr. Keith Nance

How many years as a resident of your city: Six
Marital status: Married
Family: Wife- Jolaree, Son- Satchel, sophomore at SMHS
Hobbies: Hunting, Golf
Why are you running for office?
I enjoyed my first term as councilman and was part of a team that completed several projects within St Maries. We have other projects in the works that I would like to see to completion.
What do you see as the three biggest issues you'll face?
As with most of small town American our biggest issue will be money and the correct appropriation of lesser funds for our budget. There are not any three separate issues that will be bigger than this in the coming year.
If elected, what steps will you take to resolve these issues?
As with any issue that the council makes decisions on it is imperative to have all pertinent information for that particular issue. As one of my old coaches told me about the Six Ps," Proper Preparation Prevents P--- Poor Performance." We should be informed before we perform.
What specific skills or experience qualify you for this job?
Actually I had no specific skills prior to my first term. I found that listening to your constituents, investigating, and following through are all good skills in any position to possess. In dentistry we deal with mostly problems that don't have a lot of gray area. With city problems there can be quite a bit of gray so I feel my experience from my first term have helped immensely.
Why should voters elect you, rather than an opponent?
I think voters should vote for the individual that they feel is the most qualified and has the best interest of their community at heart. If I have an opponent who I feel that way about I'll vote for him myself.

Bradley Hampton seeks office in Plummer
Bradley Hampton
Birth date: March 10, 1970
Profession: Coeur d'Alene Tribal Police Officer
Educational background: Graduated from Manchester High School 1988, A.A. in communications from North Idaho College
Public service: Appointed to Plummer City Council October 2008
Community service: Coached little league baseball for Tribal Wellness Center, participate in the take a kid shopping Christmas program
How many years as a resident of your city: I have lived in Plummer for seven years
Marital status: I have been married to Lavonne Hampton for 16 years
Family: I have two children, Robert, 15, and Elisabeth, 13
Hobbies: Hunting, fishing and I like to read a lot
Running for office: I believe it is important to take part in our local government.
Three biggest issues: Plummer faces are animal control, water and sewer, and city growth.
If elected, what steps will you take to resolve these issues?
I would like to see a cooperative effort between the county, city and Tribe to build an animal shelter. This would create jobs for people in our community. This issue needs to be addressed because it is a health issue and a danger to the public. If a person is bitten by a dog it takes time for law enforcement to track the animal down and it takes time to determine if the animal is rabid. By building a shelter we would be able to quarantine animals that have bitten someone and it would raise revenue for the city since the animals owner must pay to retrieve their animal and confirm license.
The water and sewer issue is important. We must provide clean water to all citizens. To do this we need to start replacing the aging water pipes. We are currently constructing a new sewer system which when completed will allow us to lift the sewer moratorium.
Plummer is a growing city. I believe it is important to manage that growth so that Plummer does not lose its small town feel. In order to manage that growth we need to make certain that Plummer can meet the needs of its citizens. Those needs include water and sewer. I believe that we have laid a good foundation for future growth but we need to make sure it does not get out of hand.
Specific skills and experience: I earned my degree in communications from North Idaho College. I feel that this enables me to listen to all sides of an issue with an open mind. I have worked for the Tribe as a Police Officer for seven years. I have gained experience in dealing with the public during this time.
Why voters should elect: Voters should elect the person they feel is most qualified. I have worked on the council for a year and have learned a lot. I still have a lot more to learn. I think that I would be a good choice because I keep an open mind; I would put the best interests of the citizens of Plummer first. If elected I would work to make sure that city spending does not exceed our budget.
Editor's note: Bradley Hampton was the only Plummer/Worley candidate to return a questionnaire.
