OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- North Idaho College's bid for a second straight trip to nationals came up short Saturday in a 3-0 loss to host Johnson County Community College in the championship match of the District B tournament.

"We didn't play our best game today," North Idaho coach Dan Hogan said. "The girls came out and played nervous, which I wasn't expecting. After watching Johnson County the day before, I thought we'd compete well."

North Idaho placed third in 2008 in its first trip to nationals.

Johnson County (17-6), ranked 13th in the NJCAA, advanced to its first NJCAA tournament.

Rachel Pride had two goals in the first half, with the second coming in the 25th minute on a penalty kick. Whitney Peavler scored in the 62nd minute.

Amanda Wemple and Emily Mason had four saves each for North Idaho, which finished 8-6-4.

"We got better each game this year," Hogan said. "I was actually pretty confident we would do well in Kansas City. We weren't as prepared as I thought we were. I should have done a better job of that. Our main goal was to improve each time we step on the field, and I thought we did that."

First half -- 1. JC, Rachel Pride (Emily McKinney), 11:31. 2. JC, Rachel Pride (penalty kick), 25:27. Second half -- 3. JC, Whitney Peavler (Megan Watson), 62:05.

Shots on goal -- NIC 14, JC 18.

Saves -- NIC, Emily Mason 4, Amanda Wemple 4. JC, Kelly Voigts 7.

SHERIDAN, Wyo. -- North Idaho's Kiki Edwards-Teasley had a team-high 15 points and six rebounds in a win over Western Wyoming in the Sheridan Holiday Inn Tournament.

Tugce Canitez added 12 rebounds, 10 points and Katie Sanders eight points for NIC (2-0). A 3-point attempt by Western Wyoming at the buzzer fell off the rim.

"I think we were in control of the game," North Idaho coach Chris Carlson said. "We held a 10-point lead the entire game. With having a young team like we do, the last few minutes, we started to play not to lose and made some mistakes. It was a good learning experience and we hung on."

Former Coeur d'Alene High standout Kama Griffitts was lost early in the first half after rolling her ankle. She will be re-evaluated when she returns to Coeur d'Alene, but Carlson is expecting her to miss some game time.

North Idaho hosts Wenatchee Valley College in an exhibition on Saturday, and opens Scenic West Athletic Conference play Nov. 19 against Snow at Christianson Gym.
