Commission taking comments on Avista plan

Conservation measures and plant upgrades won't be enough to meet energy demand for Avista Utilities' customers over the next 20 years, according to a planning document filed with the Idaho Public Utilities Commission.

Every two years, Idaho's regulated utilities must file a document with the commission that explains how utilities plan to meet customer load growth in the future. The commission accepts the plan for filing purposes, though it does not necessarily endorse the projects proposed in the plan. The commission is taking comments through Dec. 8 on Avista's Integrated Resource Plan.

Avista's Integrated Resource Plan, along with other documents related to this case, can be accessed on the commission's Web site at www.puc.idaho.gov. Click on the electric icon, then on "Open Electric Cases," and scroll down to Case No. AVU-E-09-09. To make a comment, go the Web site and click on "Comments and Questions," fill in the case number and enter your comment. Comments can also be mailed to P.O. Box 83720, Boise, ID 83720-0074 or faxed to (208) 334-3762.

Pend d'Oreille Winery takes home three medals

Pend d'Oreille Winery in Sandpoint brought home three medals from the 31st annual Tri Cities Wine Festival on Nov. 7.

The 2007 Primitivo earned a bronze medal and the interest of many festival attendees. The 2006 Meyer Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon won gold and was certainly a crowd favorite. The big winner was the Bistro Rouge, winning a double gold medal.

"It's really great to receive this kind of recognition from a prestigious Northwest event," said winemaker Steve Meyer.

The Tri Cities Wine Festival is an annual wine competition and public tasting featuring some of the best wines of the Northwest.
