Midtown project under way

COEUR d'ALENE -- The city broke ground on the $3 million Midtown revitalization project on May 26, paving the way for a "hip and groovy" stretch of Fourth Street with public art, pedestrian-friendly sidewalks and tree lined streets sporting colored concrete accents.

The majority of business owners are excited about the project, said Dennis Spencer, public relations representative contracted by SAFCO Construction.

Avista issued 50-year license to operate dam

POST FALLS -- Avista Utilities has received a 50-year license to operate its five hydroelectric projects on the Spokane River, including the Post Falls Dam, marking the end of a seven-year process involving 200 stakeholders.

The conditions in the license issued by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission reflect settlement agreements with various parties, including the Coeur d'Alene Tribe, federal, state and local natural resource and recreation management agencies, the Sierra Club and other groups.
