Christian Community Theater-North Idaho’s production of Disney’s “Newsies the Musical” is running through Aug. 12 at Lake City Playhouse, 1320 E. Garden Ave., Coeur d’Alene.

A Christian Youth Theater program, Christian Community Theater productions cast adults in age-appropriate roles, unlike the youth theater’s afterschool theater arts program, giving families the opportunity to perform together. This production of “Newsies” includes parents and children from two local families.

Set in turn-of-the-century New York City, “Newsies” is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy, and leader of a band of teenaged “newsies.” When titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what’s right.

Inspired by a true story, “Newsies” is a two-time Tony Award winner that ran on Broadway for more than 1,000 performances.

Performance dates are: Aug. 4, 8, 9, 10 and 11 at 7 p.m. and Aug 4, 5, 11 and 12 at 3 p.m.

Ticket prices are $20/adults, $15/children 12 and under, seniors 65 and older and military personnel with I.D. All tickets $23 at the door.
