PLUMMER - A wildfire within Heyburn State Park along the Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes has prompted state parks and recreation officials to close the trail.

Called the “Boundary Fire,” it is burning between Plummer creek and the Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes, said a news release.

“Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes closures are in place to allow access for firefighters, equipment and to ensure public safety,” said Ron Hise, Heyburn State Park Manager. “The trail will be closed between mile-marker 0 the Plummer Trailhead in the City of Plummer and the Indian Cliffs Trailhead in Heyburn State Park until we determine it’s safe for public access.”

The fire is about three acres in size and was estimated to be 40 percent contained around 1:30 p.m. with full containment expected by the end of the day.

Three engines and approximately 20 firefighters are working to contain the fire along with a helicopter and two fixed wing water scooping aircraft.

Crews will be working on the fire for several days and closures are expected to be in place while crews are present.
