GUNS: Hear the students

Print Article

This letter is addressed directly to Joe Franks and George Silva. I cannot believe either one of you said what you did about the students protesting guns in Florida after having their school shot up by an idiot with an AR-15.

These students have firsthand knowledge of what it is like to be in a supposedly safe place and see their fellow students shot at and killed. I applaud them for having the logic to perceive that assault weapons should be banned. They are not asking that anyone’s guns be taken away. They are saying there is no reason on Earth that weapons of mass destruction should be sold to anyone but the police/military from this day forward.

When Congress (Republicans) let the ban on assault weapons expire, since then all hell has been unleashed on innocent school children and citizens. The Founding Fathers were not speaking of assault weapons when it came to the Second Amendment. I challenge anyone to dispute this! They had no idea their fellow humans would come up with “assault weapons for everyone” and would be truly appalled at what greedy human beings have unleashed on this country.

“Take away the guns and ‘they’ will find something else” is a scare tactic long past its prime. Bring logic and reason back to our country. Kudos to Gov. Jay Inslee of Washington for standing up to the schoolyard bully (Trump). Too bad Idaho doesn’t have a governor with as much courage.
