NIC hosts high school regional Skills USA welding competition

Pictured is the 2018 regional Skills USA welding competition underway. The annual event is hosted by NIC, with winners eligible to go to the statewide Skills USA competition April 5-6 in Nampa, Idaho.

A total of 45 high school students from Kootenai Technical Education Campus, Lakeland High School and Sandpoint High School participated in the regional Skills USA welding competition hosted by North Idaho College Feb. 2.

Three former NIC welding students who now work in the industry judged the event: Tarnell Brown and Ryan Brown, who work for Wagstaff Applied Technologies, and Jeremy Brondt, who works for Silverwood Theme Park.

Winners will go on to compete in the statewide Skills USA competition April 5-6 in Nampa, Idaho.

Third Place: Levi Guy – Lakeland High School

Flux Core Arc Welding

First Place: Miles Luce – Sandpoint High School

Second Place: Cody Henly – Lakeland High School

Third Place: Tanner Kohul – Sandpoint High School

Prizes and material for this event were supplied by Cd’A Metals, Pacific Steel, Norco and Lincoln Electric.
