PREP ROUNDUP: Lakeland rallies from 10 runs down to beat Timberlake

| May 9, 2021 1:15 AM

RATHDRUM — Scott Pemberton scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Lakeland the lead as the Hawks, who trailed 10-0 in the second inning, beat the visiting Timberlake Tigers 15-10 in the regular season finale for both schools on senior day for Lakeland at Gorton Field on Saturday.

After Timberlake scored seven runs in the top of the second for a 10-0 lead, Lakeland responded with nine runs in the bottom of the second. Nick Nowell singled to score Scott Hocking to tie the game at 10 after three innings for Lakeland.

Cole Strietzel, a senior, struck out nine in six innings of relief for Lakeland.

Payden Wysong had three RBIs, Scott Pemberton and Nowell two RBIs each for Lakeland.

“Wysong, Pemberton and Nowell came up big for us today,” Lakeland coach Jason Bradbury said. “They had some key hits and multiple RBIs each. I was really proud of my club today. We gave up 10 runs in the first two innings, and then battled right back to make a game of it. Cole did a fabulous job of throwing strikes and commanding the mound. It was our senior day, and I don’t think he could have asked for a better outing to be his last on our field at home. He did a great job.”

Grant Allaway had two RBIs for Timberlake (10-9), which opens the 3A District 1 tournament at home against Kellogg on Monday at 4 p.m.

Lakeland (3-23) opens the 4A Region 1 tournament in a loser-out game against Sandpoint in Moscow at 2 p.m., with that winner advancing to a best-of-3 championship series against Moscow starting at 5.
