There are a few local locations for COVID-19 testing for those who feel like they might have the virus or are looking to travel.

Katherine Hoyer, Panhandle Health District spokeswoman, said those testing for travel will probably have a longer wait than expected as the priority is those who are symptomatic or have had a known exposure.

“Especially when we are having big surges like this, the testing demand increases significantly,” Hoyer said Monday.

Many testing locations require a provider referral, but those without a provider can call PHD’s hotline (877-415-5225 9 a.m.-noon/1-4 p.m. M-F) to get a referral.

Hoyer said due to the increased demand for tests and referrals will be prioritized.

Kootenai Health offers testing seven days a week with a referral. Wait times may vary from one to three hours depending on the day and time. Results are returned in 24 to 48 hours.

Heritage Health in Coeur d’Alene carries polymerase chain reaction (PCR) or rapid COVID-19 tests. Those who are not current patients need to schedule a telehealth appointment with a Heritage Health provider to get a referral.

Vault tests are available in the lobby of the PHD office for free. The test consists of a saliva test done in conjunction with a medical assistant through a Zoom call.

All veterans, their spouses and caregivers can get a COVID-19 vaccine at the North Idaho VA Clinic in Coeur d'Alene by appointment or walk-in clinic.

Incyte Diagnostics in Hayden offers walk-in testing for anyone with a doctor’s referral with a 24 to 48 hour turnaround time.

Active Family Healthcare in Coeur d’Alene offers testing by appointment.

Lakeland Immediate Care in Rathdrum offers COVID-19 rapid antigen testing from Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in a walk-in clinic. The cost is $160 for uninsured patients.

Walgreens locations which offer free drive-thru COVID-19 testing have no appointments available for locations within two hours of Coeur d’Alene.
