Memorial Day ceremonies slated throughout Kootenai County

COEUR d'ALENE — Memorial Day ceremonies are scheduled throughout Kootenai County, and the public is encouraged to attend.

The first is scheduled noon Sunday at St. Thomas Cemetery, where about 400 veterans are buried.

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 889 will lead things off Monday at 9 a.m. at McEuen Park Veterans Memorial Plaza. It will include prayer, the laying of a wreath in Lake Coeur d'Alene and guest speaker Bill Jasper. It will include an Honor Guard and the playing of taps.

Another ceremony is scheduled at 11 a.m., at Forest Cemetery, led by VFW Post 889, which will also feature a guest speaker, Honor Guard and taps.

The Rathdrum American Legion Post 154 and the city of Rathdrum will conduct a Memorial Day ceremony at noon at Pinegrove Cemetery.

Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens will have a ceremony at 10 a.m. The service will include a roll call for veterans who passed away the previous year through May. There will also be food and beverages.

The city of Hayden and the Hayden Veterans Commission are conducting a wreath ceremony at Honeysuckle Beach at 9:30 a.m. before the ceremony at 11 a.m. at McIntire Family Park. The Honeysuckle Beach boat launch will remain open.

Ceremonies are scheduled in Post Falls at Pleasant View Cemetery, 11 a.m., led by VFW 3603, and Evergreen Cemetery, noon, led by American Legion 143, and Greenwood Cemetery in Spirit Lake, noon, led by VFW Post 1473.
