Rail jam charity events coming up

Snowboarders and skiers will shred snow and showcase skills to support their community during the Jam 4 Cans Rail Jam and food drive events, happening this weekend, as well as Feb. 25 and March 11.
This year's events will for the first time include two urban rail jams.
"We're definitely exited about adding another urban event," Jam 4 Cans Event Director Caleb Foss said Friday. "For us, that's an exciting thing to be able to do."
A rail jam series across the Inland Northwest since 2009, Jam 4 Cans is open to all skiers and snowboarders, with the goals of collecting food for local food banks and raising awareness about the needs of those food banks and the populations they serve.
The Hayden Urban Rail Jam will be from 3:30-7:30 p.m. Saturday at Tobler Marina, 13400 N. Clovis Road. The rail jam will be featured as part of Tobler's Cowboy Boat Show.
The Post Falls Urban Rail Jam will be from 6:30-9 p.m., Feb. 25, at Summit Northwest Ministries, 1486 W. Seltice Way.
The Mount Spokane Rail Jam will be from 1:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., March 11, at the terrain park, 29500 N. Mount Spokane Park Drive.
Foss said the events annually bring in an average of 1,000 pounds of food each year.
“One of the things we are really trying to do is to inspire the skiing and snowboarding community to take an interest in their local community and do things to impact in a positive way," he said. "This gives the skiing and snowboarding community a chance to use something they really enjoy to make a positive difference in the lives of community members."
Registration will be on site. The rider entry fee is 15 non-perishable food items, such as peanut butter, chili, cereal, Hamburger Helper, canned meats such as tuna, chicken and beef, canned ravioli and other pastas, refried beans and rice. Spectators are also encouraged to bring cans of food. Food collected will support the Post Falls Food Bank, Second Harvest Inland Northwest and other local resources for people in need.
Riders will compete for cash and gear prizes. Food trucks and vendors will also be on site.
