COEUR d'ALENE - Nearly 700 gymnasts will be in Coeur d'Alene this weekend for the Idaho State Gymnastics Championship.

Meet director Dave Adlard said athletes ages 7 to 23, beginners to national class, will compete starting today and continuing through Sunday at North Idaho College.

"The top echelon is as good as anyone in the country," he said.

The event will bring in gymnasts from 25 gyms, 120 coaches and judges, and 2,000 spectators.

Girls will compete in vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise.

Boys will compete in floor, pummel horse, rings, vault, parallel bars and high bar.

Adlard said about 100 competitors are from local gyms.

"It should be a good show," he said.

Day passes, available at the doors and online, are $15 for adults, $10 for students.
