Kootenai County Clerk Cliff Hayes released the costs of verifying the signatures on four recall petitions for the City of Coeur d’Alene.

“We’ve had several requests for the cost information,” Hayes said, in a press release. “The total is approximately $6,750, all of which is for wages. This does not include 180 hours of time by the Clerk, Chief Deputy Clerk and the Elections Manager, who are salaried employees."

All permanent elections staff members worked on the recall verification task, plus two county employees loaned from the auditor’s department. In addition, several temporary workers who had previously worked on elections tasks joined the project, and five additional temporary workers helped out for one Saturday.

“Most days the crew worked 10 or 11 hours, so there were several hundred hours involved, including some overtime," Hayes said.

The Kootenai County Elections budget for fiscal year 2012 is $599,613. The state of Idaho is expected to contribute about $220,000 for election consolidation; the remaining funds needed are sourced from property taxes. No additional state funds will accrue to Kootenai County as a result of the need to verify the recall petition signatures, Hayes said.

“However, we complied with Idaho Code," he said.

oh you've done way more than comply with Idaho Code.
why bother with verifying if your intent was to make sure the petition failed?
did you include the cost of thank you notes to the SOS and associatied players?

How about sending a bill to all the verified signers of the petition including cost of stamp. They can split the cost of their recall effort.

    Humanist..

Thank you. By your own words at least I know one of us is "astounding." Would like to return the compliment but your "arrogance" over the past months won't allow it.

    Again, thanks for the compliment.

Those lacking or void of ethics, are jumping for joy!

Next time there's a recall petition, as each petition signer to contribute $1.00. Pretty sure most would be glad to pay.

Do not let the unethical elected officials, throw this in the face of taxpayers.

As usual, they take no responsbility, and have no appreciation for our nation, the State of Idaho, or the taxpayers who pay their wages.

The mayor took out a business loan how many years ago? Still owes the same amount? You voted for her?

Quote bionic man: "The fantastic 4 should pay the bill because of their arrogance."

The arrogance of that statement is astounding.

Money well spent but sad it had to be. Much cheaper than a park redo.

The costs were incurred by the fantastic 4. If they would have listened to the people, this recall would have never happened. The fantastic 4 should pay the bill because of their arrogance.
