POST FALLS - If you feel like telling your kids or even your spouse to get lost, here's your chance with some fun involved.

The Incredible Corn Maze opens on Friday at 3405 N. Beck Road between Post Falls and Hauser.

"It's good clean fun for the entire family," said Lynn Humphreys, whose field has been converted into a corn maze for the past nine years.

The mazes this year include a farm harvest scene with a scarecrow, pumpkins and a barn on 12 acres. The separate Field of Screams haunted maze on three acres features a skull and opens on Oct. 6.

"It's a chance to get outside for some activity while the weather still allows," said Suzie Dunn, event organizer.

New this year will be a pumpkin patch.

"We try to add a new attraction every year to give people another reason to come out," Dunn said.

A food court, free tractor tire playground, corn cannon shooting range and helicopter rides overseeing the mazes will be on hand Saturdays and Sundays starting Sept. 29. The rides are $20 and corn shots are three for a $1 or 20 for $5.

A maze game will also be available. Cards punched at each of the 15 checkpoints makes visitors eligible for prizes.

The maze is a partnership between C&L Farms, KXLY and Northwest Creative Solutions, a limited liability corporation that Dunn owns and offers a variety of community events. Northwest Creative Solutions leases the property from C&L Farms.

Dunn said eight different nonprofits, ranging from scout groups to Sorensen Elementary's parent-teacher organization, will raise funds this year by helping staff the site. Groups raise anywhere from $300 to $2,000 per weekend, depending on the number of volunteers. The maze typically helps nonprofits raise between $10,000 and $15,000 each year.

Hours are 4-11 p.m. on Fridays, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays. The haunted maze opens at 6 p.m. The maze will also be open from 6-10 p.m. on Oct. 24, Oct. 25 and on Halloween. The cost is $9 for teens and adults and $6 for kids ages 5-12 and seniors. Kids ages 4 and younger are admitted free. The cost for access to the haunted maze is an additional dollar.

I always wanted to go to one of these mazes but I think they're kind of corny.
