COEUR d'ALENE - The Windermere Foundation contributed $36,208 to local charities and those in need in 2010.

The foundation has given nearly $700,000 in the past 14 years.

Windermere employees contribute a portion of their commission to the foundation. The foundation also holds fundraisers.

"We're a sales and marketing organization with a big heart for the local community," said Don "Pepper" Smock, president of Windermere Coeur d'Alene Realty.

A big heart almost always comes second to profit. Windermere does do a lot of good for the community with little thanks. Boot and sock program for local school children easily comes to mind.

Guess that "big heart," doesn't include any love for local businesses like the CDA Brewery now does it?
