COEUR d'ALENE - The Most Rev. Dr. Katharine Jefferts Schori, the 26th Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, will preach at a service of evening prayer at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 501 E Wallace Ave. at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The former bishop of Nevada, Jefferts Schori was elected in 2006 as chief pastor to the Episcopal Church's 2.4 million members in 16 countries and 110 dioceses.

She joins with other principal bishops of the 39 Provinces of the worldwide Anglican Communion, as well as with ecumenical and interfaith leaders, in consultation for global good and reconciliation. With her historic election in 2006, Bishop Katharine became the first woman to be elected primate in the Anglican Church.

Over the course of her nine-year term, Bishop Jefferts Schori is responsible for initiating and developing policy for the Episcopal Church and speaks on behalf of the church regarding the policies, strategies, and programs authorized by the church's General Convention.

She has been vocal about the Episcopal Church's gospel-based mission priorities, including the United Nation Millennium Development Goals, issues of domestic poverty, climate change and care for the Earth.
