COEUR d'ALENE - A 36-year-old Spokane man was sentenced on Tuesday to serve four years in prison for selling a bighorn sheep skull without the appropriate Idaho Department of Fish and Game documentation.

Christopher J. Blair was sentenced by 1st District Court Judge John T. Mitchell, who ordered that Blair serve the first year fixed, with the final years indeterminate.

During the investigation it was revealed Blair was aware of the illegal nature of his conduct, the Kootenai County Prosecutor's Office said in a news release.

Blair's criminal history includes a felony burglary conviction, and misdemeanor convictions for theft, shoplifting, driving while suspended, and two DUIs. He also was sentenced twice for failure to comply relating to his DUI convictions.

Kootenai County Prosecutor Barry McHugh said, "Blair demonstrated in his past and in this matter an inability or unwillingness to follow the law."

He said the selling of the sheep skull was the latest in a series of crimes starting in 2004.

"We hope that Judge Mitchell's sentence will convince Mr. Blair that further criminal conduct is not worth the imprisonment that will result from continuing the existing pattern," McHugh said.

Carl Thompson (from Hayen ID), who was convicted of "exessive force" and lying to Federal Prosecutors was sentenced to 51 months today. His acts led to the death of a good human being.

Then this poor sod from Spokane gets 48 months for not being able to prove he had a permit to kill a sheep--busted for selling a skull with antlers that got him about the same time as a cop with an oversized, specialty, stick meant only for hurting others.

Something is wrong with both of these sentences--or something is way wrong with the system.

And truthful 1, you can go back to where ever you came from. At first glance I thought 4 yrs for the sale of a sheep skull was a little....or lot, crazy. But since this guy is basically a piece of trash and a blatant criminal, yeah, now it makes sense.

A fitting sentence for a typical 'hunter'

All of the comments (below) are correct. I suspect that the problem here is not the court but the reporter.

Note that the reporter is not named. The source of this story is not clear. That looks less than professional.

That lack of professionalism is a deep concern because we need to trust the newspaper. This story does not look trustworthy. I sure hope that the Coeur d'Alene Press does not suffer a lawsuit.

    "Whaddya in for?"
Inmate 1: I killed everyone at my family reunion.
Inmate 2: I burnt down an orphanage and used the insurance money to go on a meth binge.
Inmate 3: I sold a skull without the proper paperwork.

Sheryl Carroll embezzled $365,000 from the city of coeur d alene and based off precedence will serve a little over a year.

Our local judicial system is a total joke and a sham.

Wow, the crooks burglarize our homes, shops, vehicles and outbuildings and when they get caught they get their hands slapped. The justice system is broken.

Can't see a 4 year prison term for selling an illegal ram's head. Blair, however, should be in jail for a lot longer just for being a confirmed recidivist.
