COEUR d'ALENE - A 58-year-old transient was found lying unconscious along the shoulder of U.S. Highway 95 on Sunday just before midnight, and he later died after being taken to a hospital.

Sgt. Christie Wood of the Coeur d'Alene Police Department said his death is not suspicious.

"He had no obvious trauma to his body," she said.

His name wasn't released Monday because the family hadn't been notified of his death.

He was lying on the east side of the highway, on the north end of the Interstate 90 overpass.

Responding officers found no pulse, and started CPR.

Emergency medical personnel arrived, provided some on-scene care, then took him to Kootenai Health's medical center in Coeur d'Alene.

"Doctors worked on him for quite some time before he was pronounced dead," Wood said.

She didn't know who reported the man lying near the highway.

"I would imagine there were several passers-by who saw him," she said.

He was possibly from the Orofino, Idaho, area, she said.

916: are you that niave? Too much TV disturbs your sense of reality. The calls go to your local dispatch center , then the closest available ambulance responds.

Maybe they should have waited another 30 minutes for the ambulance from Kootenia Health to return from some call from the local senior center. Then you would be satisfied.

Stop commenting if you dont think first. Im sure they problably deviated from standard practice so people like you could cast blame on them. Yep, thats got to be it. - great post though (not)

AVGLOCAL: Suspicious=signs of obvious foul play. Gunshot or stab wounds, traffic injuries, exposure issues, etc...again, just like above, there are things the police follow up on ...yes, even with transients. You should volunteer with the police since you have so many great ideas and time to help. Maybe not.

So can Sgt. Christie Wood of the Coeur d'Alene Police Department answer WHY THE AMBULANCE CAME FROM HAYDEN AVE IN HAYDEN IDAHO INSTEAD OF ONE CLOSER LIKE ONE THAT WAS AT THE KOOTENAI MEDICAL CENTER (RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET FROM WHERE THE MAN WAS FOUND)????????????? AND COULD THAT POSSIBLY BE THE REASON THAT WHEN MEDICAL ATTENTION ***** FINALLY ARRIVED...........THE MAN HAD NO PULSE? (its BS if you ask me!!!!!!!!!!!!)

"Sgt. Christie Wood of the Coeur d'Alene Police Department said his death is not suspicious" Just because he was a transient does not mean this man does not deserve respect, how can this not be suspicious?! And to our incompetent Cd'A Press; as usual where is the follow up to this?!
