HAYDEN - Sophia Delgado was in the back room of Wink Salon in Hayden on Wednesday afternoon, working on giving a customer eyelash extensions, when she heard a loud noise from the front of the store.

An SUV had driven through the front door of the salon and into the waiting area.

"It sounded like a train coming through my building," Delgado said. "My client, who had her eyes closed, and I were startled. I stopped what I was doing right away."

When she exited the back room of the salon, Delgado said she saw the driver of the SUV standing outside of the vehicle. After making sure she was not injured, Delgado called 911 to report the crash.

"It was fabulous the way they came into respond," said Elizabeth Alexandrovich, who co-owns the salon with Delgado. "Everybody was quick to respond."

Alexandrovich added it was "fortunate" no one was sitting in the waiting room during the accident, and that the driver told her she was going to Domino's, which is next door to the salon, and tried to hit the brakes but the car didn't stop.

Contractors were at the salon Wednesday afternoon beginning repairs on the building and Alexandrovich said the only question now is whether or not they will be able to open the salon today.

"Hopefully we will be open for business and not take too much of a loss," Alexandrovich said. "If not we will just have to let people in through the back door."

It's really awesome no one was hurt.

Why can't the "haters" say something nice like that instead of fretting over a stupid election?

The driver will probably get blamed for this but the cause was most likely "unintended acceleration." It has been a problem over the years. One type of car was particularly bad for this years ago. The manufacturers have been working on it. It's rare but it happens. It only happens on a car with cruise control and five events within the car have to happen in sequence for this to occur. An engineer finally figured it out. I have had it happen on a Ford van and a Dodge compact car. A mechanic in CdA had it happen on a motorhome which went through a wall in his shop.
A few years ago a woman drove off the side of a parking garage in Spokane. Unintended acceleration was probably the cause there. While rare, it is not that rare.
If it ever happens to anyone out there, just TURN OFF THE KEY.
