COEUR d'ALENE - There are three seats up for election in November on the North Idaho College Board of Trustees.

The positions, now held by Judy Meyer, Mic Armon and Ron Vieselmeyer, will appear on the general election ballot.

The deadline for candidates to file their declarations/petitions of candidacy is Aug. 31 at 5 p.m.

To date, no candidates have stepped up.

"There is still two weeks before the deadline, so at this time, I don't see any reason to be concerned," said Stacy Hudson, NIC Communications and Marketing director. "I fathom that this is normal this early in the process."

Individuals who miss the Aug. 31 deadline will not be placed on the ballot. They may file as a declared write-in candidate if they file a declaration of intent no later than 5 p.m. on Sept. 21.

NIC is governed by a five-member board of trustees elected at large from within Kootenai County for staggered terms.

Each of the three seats up for election is for a four-year term.

To be eligible, a candidate must be at least 18 years old, a resident of Kootenai County for at least 30 days prior to the election and a registered voter. Candidates must also obtain at least five signatures from others meeting the same elector requirements on a nominating petition.

Declaration/Petition of Candidacy forms are available in the NIC Office of Resource Management, located in Lee-Kildow Hall Room 111, or the Kootenai County Elections Office at 1808 N. Third St. in Coeur d'Alene. Completed forms are to be returned to the clerk of the North Idaho College district in the Office of Resource Management by 5 p.m. on Aug. 31.

Info: Carol Jones (208) 769-3340 or Kootenai County Board of Elections: (208) 446-1030.

Would that mean you are throwing your hat into the ring voxpop? Sounds like the positions are open to just about anyone.

Now here is an organization that I'd love to see invaded and colonized by the hard core right wing - rather than the SD271 school board. That slurping sound you constantly hear, just past that ringing in your ears, is the NIC trustees chowing down on every morsel of property tax they can lay claim to.
