Pat Lawless has resigned as Spirit Lake's police chief for personal reasons, Mayor Todd Clary said.

Clary said three police department employees, including Lawless, had a conversation that was "not appropriate for the workplace" and the other two have been disciplined. No one was fired. Clary declined to comment further, citing personnel reasons.

Clary said no criminal activity has been found against Lawless.

Lawless, who has been Spirit Lake's chief for about three years and with the department for about six, could not be reached for comment this afternoon.

Good Riddance. I had a couple run-ins trying to get public info from this arrogant blowhard. He hadn't a clue what public info was. Rude, insolent, carrying a gun, and of course...this. Bad choice for chief. No experience, no "discretion." Two strikes. I hope that means he won't be a "law" officer somewhere else

I heard there was an inappropriate video involved that was shown on a city computer by Lawless to two female employees. Why wasn't that said? Guess it doesn't matter because Spirit Lake is better off.
