COEUR d'ALENE - The Coeur d'Alene Lumbermen did Ernie Banks one better and played three on Sunday - and won all three.
The Lums beat the Missoula Mavericks 6-2 in a game shortened to seven innings from its originally scheduled nine. Pete Hoffman pitched a complete game and Chad Nyquist hit a solo homer for Coeur d'Alene.
The Lums then swept Trail (British Columbia) 14-4 and 16-13 in North Idaho League play. Grant Curtis pitched a complete game in the opener.

Coeur d'Alene (39-8, 15-1 NIL) plays host to Missoula in a nine-inning game today at 1, then hosts the class AA Area A (district) tournament starting Friday at McEuen Field.
St. Maries 3-5
ST. MARIES - Hunter Bailey went 3 for 4 and drove in three runs as Coeur d'Alene won the opener of the class A North Idaho League doubleheader. Jacob McKnight was 2 for 3 with two RBIs, Colton Gray was 2 for 3 and Dan Bryant and Derek Griffin each drove in two runs. Brett Wingham struck out six in a complete game.
In the second game, Colby Kennedy struck out six in six innings of relief after starting pitcher Stephen Babich took a line drive off the chest and had to leave the game. Loggers coach Mike Bacon said Babich was expected to be OK.
The Loggers (20-22, 10-13 NIL) open class A Area A (district) tournament play Thursday in St. Maries.
Mt. Spokane 13
SPOKANE VALLEY - Coeur d'Alene's 16-and-under went two-and-out and was eliminated from the Washington Junior "A" state tournament, losing Sunday to Mt. Spokane at University High.
Nathaniel English had three hits, and Jordan Ross and Connor Strand each had two for the Lumberjacks, who finished 22-9-1.
