ST. MARIES - Parker Gabrielson singled in the go-ahead run with one out in the top of the sixth inning as the fifth-seeded Coeur d'Alene Loggers rallied to defeat the top-seeded Lewis-Clark Cubs 8-5 at the Class A Area A (district) tournament on Friday.
Coeur d'Alene (21-22) scored six runs in the sixth inning to take the lead and advance to the semifinals today at 5 p.m. against third-seeded St. Maries, which beat No. 7 Orofino 12-10. The winner qualifies for state, and advances to Sunday's championship game at 3 p.m.
Colton Gray went 2 for 5 with three RBIs and a solo home run in the third inning, and Sam Schultz went 2 for 4 with two doubles for Coeur d'Alene.
In Friday's other game, second-seeded Moscow eliminated No. 6 Camas Prairie 6-3.
Prairie, the No. 4 seed who had a bye Friday, plays Orofino at 8 a.m. today, followed by Moscow vs. Lewis-Clark at 11, both in loser-out games. Those two winners play at 2 p.m.
