PREP ROUNDUP: Sandpoint blanks Lake City

SANDPOINT - Sandpoint's Tim Thoreson sent a shot from 15 yards out past Lake City goalkeeper Tanner Horton in the 48th minute to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 win over the Timberwolves in a nonleague soccer game at War Memorial Field on Wednesday.

"That was one heck of a shot by that kid," Lake City coach Chad Beadell said. "Tanner was fully extended, and still almost got it. This is one heck of an atmosphere to play in."

Horton finished with nine saves for Lake City (2-2), which hosts Lewiston today.

First half - none. Second half - 1, Spt, Tim Thoreson (unassisted), 48:00.

Shots on goal - LC 10, Spt 10.

SPOKANE - Freshman midfielder Sydney Quimby scored the opening goal for the Timberwolves, but the Titans scored four unanswered to win a nonleague game.

"We just didn't come out with a good mentality today," Lake City coach Matt Ruchti said. "We weren't organized getting on the bus, getting off the bus and during the game."

Tiegan Horton had six saves for Lake City (1-1-1), which travels to Lewiston today.

COEUR d'ALENE - Anna Kessler and Alea Acosta scored unassisted goals in the first half as the Panthers beat the Vikings in a nonleague game.

"We had some great opportunities, but just couldn't put them away," said Coeur d'Alene coach Tarragh Carr, whose team had 10 shots on goal. "The girls are improving every game, but just can't find the frame."

Madi Williams and Juila Roach had four saves each for Coeur d'Alene (1-3), which hosts Lewiston on Saturday.

First half - 1, Mead, Anna Kessler (unassisted), 20:00. 2, Mead, Alea Acosta (unassisted), 30:00. Second half - none.

Trojans fall to Sandpoint, Gonzaga Prep

POST FALLS - Sydney Wiggins had 12 kills and Brenna Meehan 29 assists and 10 digs for the Trojans in a 25-17, 25-22, 22-25, 27-25 loss to the Bulldogs in the first game of a tri-match at The Arena.

Danielle Failor had six blocks and Brooke Litalien and Amy Booth four aces for Post Falls against Sandpoint.

Later, Failor had 14 kills and five blocks for the Trojans in a 24-26, 25-20, 25-17, 25-23 loss to the Bullpups.

Meehan added 36 assists for Post Falls (1-3), which competes in the Lakeland Invitational on Saturday.
