Phay wins Rosauers; Grove ties for 10th

SPOKANE - David Phay birdied the final hole to beat defending champion Corey Prugh by one stroke and win the 25th Rosauers Open Invitational golf tournament Sunday at Indian Canyon Golf Course.

Phay, from Whidbey Golf and Country Club in Oak Harbor, Wash., shot a final round 68 for a 19-under 194 for the 54-hole tournament. He earned $11,000. Prugh, from Manito Golf and Country Club in Spokane, closed with a 65 and finished at 18-under 195 and took home $7,250.

Russell Grove of Hayden, an assistant pro at Avondale Golf Club in Hayden Lake, was the top local finisher, shooting a 1-under 70 and finishing in a tie for 10th at 12-under 201. Grove, the former Coeur d'Alene High and University of Idaho standout, earned $2,812.50.

Darin Vaughan of Twin Lakes Village shot a 72 and finished at 5-under 208. Mark Poirier of The Highlands shot 69 and finished at 1-under 212, and Brad Hansen of StoneRidge shot a final round 74 and also finished at 1-under 212.
