COEUR d'ALENE - Chad Nyquist went 2 for 4 with five RBIs as the Coeur d'Alene Lumbermen beat the Pullman Patriots 11-5 in the opening game in the McEuen Field Pod of the Spokane/Coeur d'Alene Wood Bat Classic Senior Division on Tuesday.

Grant Curtis struck out five in the first five innings for Coeur d'Alene (23-3), which faces the Okotoks Dawgs of Alberta today at 3:30 p.m.

"We were very solid at the outset," Coeur d'Alene coach Lloyd Duman said. "But when it's a tournament, it's nice to get the first win, but it is only the beginning."

Due to the rain on Monday and Tuesday, Duman and assistant coach Cory Bridges worked from 7 a.m. to get the field ready.

"It was kind of tough," Duman said. "Nobody thought we were going to play, but Cory and I got the field ready."

Kolby DeHaas went 2 for 3 with three RBIs for Coeur d'Alene.
