COEUR d'ALENE - T.J. McWhorter converted a penalty kick and Alec Johnson scored his second goal of the season in the first two minutes of the second half as the Lake City Timberwolves beat the Coeur d'Alene Vikings 4-1 in a 5A Inland Empire League boys soccer match Saturday at Coeur d'Alene High.

Coeur d'Alene's loss gave Post Falls the league title, and the No. 1 seed to the 5A Region 1 tournament starting Wednesday, where the Trojans will face Lewiston in the opening round. No. 2 seed Coeur d'Alene (8-4-3, 4-2) will host No. 3 Lake City (6-4-3, 2-2-1) in the other semifinal on Wednesday. Both matches are loser-out.

"We need to keep getting better each day," Lake City coach Chad Beadell said. "My guys played outstanding today and I'm extremely happy for them. The ball bounced the right way for us today."

"I thought we played exceptionally well in the first half," Post Falls coach Gabe Lawson said. 'We went down a man in the second half due to a red card (a handball in the penalty box), but overall, thought we played really well and could have scored a few more goals."

Sandpoint 6

Lewiston 0

LEWISTON - Looking to erase the memory of a frustrating offensive night in a 1-0 loss to Lakeland on Thursday, Sandpoint scored early and often in a rout of Lewiston in nonleague play.

Anthony Fox scored three goals in a 10-minute span in the first half, giving him a team-high 13 goals on the season, and Jake Rookey posted his sixth shutout in goal for the Bulldogs (8-5-2), who built a 5-0 halftime lead and cruised to an easy win.

"We kept the ball in the attacking half against Lakeland and outshot them, but we couldn't find the back of the net," Bulldogs coach Adam Tajan said. "We went into the Lewiston game with the mentality of dominating. That was huge in this game, finishing our chances."

Zach Couch scored his first goal of the season just one minute into the game, setting the tone early, and Joab Logan and Tim Thoreson also joined the scoring spree for Sandpoint, which held a 17-3 edge in shots on goal.

Brock Rodacker had seven saves for the Bengals (4-10).

Bonners Ferry 1

St. Maries 1

ST. MARIES - Brett Dickman scored on a penalty kick in the 80th minute as the Lumberjacks and Badgers played to a draw in an Intermountain League match.

Thomas Cook was pulled down in the penalty box, allowing Dickman to take the tying PK for St. Maries.

"He had the ball on the left side in a big crowd and got pulled down off the back side," St. Maries coach Chris Renaldo said. "It's unfortunate."

Since starting the program in 2000, it was the first time the Lumberjacks had tied the Badgers in regular season or district tournament play. St. Maries has never beaten Bonners.

"It's a big deal for us," Renaldo said. "Our kids played well. Cody (Posselt) and Thomas had great games."

St. Maries (7-6-1, 3-1-1 IML) hosts Orofino on Tuesday. Bonners Ferry is 3-6-2, 3-0-1.
