Eighteen members of Coeur d'Alene Area Swim Team traveled to Wenatchee, Wash., July 6-8 to compete in the Starlight Invitational swim meet.

Three CAST swimmers - Sarah Gonzales, 8, her sister Hannah Gonzales, 14, and Cole Curtis, 12 - received the coveted high point awards for their age group.

The Kootenai Ice 18-and-under ASA fastpitch team placed third in the SSUA tournament in Spokane over the weekend.

In pool play the Ice beat the Perfect Storm 10-9. Tori Schuler hit a grand slam for the Ice, and scored the winning run on a double by Kendal Floch.

The Ice then beat the Dawgs 5-4. Alia Cox and Nicole Cameron each went 2 for 2, and Cameron held the Dawgs to one run through five innings. The Dawgs tied it in the sixth on a three-run homer, but the Ice came back to win it when Schuler doubled and scored on Amber Edwards' single.

The Ice then lost 10-1 to the Diamonds. Kodi Kuykendall went 2 for 2 and scored the Ice's lone run on a single by Floch.
