Alex Oates, 86
Alex Noel Oates, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, passed away Nov. 27, 2017, at the age of 86 at the Schneidmiller Hospice House following a brief illness. He was born Oct. 11, 1931, in Midland, Texas, to Noel and Katherine (Roderick) Oates and attended McMurry College in Abilene, Texas, where he met his wife, Bonnie Rea McDonald. They were married in 1952.
From 1954-1956, Alex served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. After his military service, he began working in the petroleum and coatings industries, living in Texas and Oklahoma throughout his career. In 1996, he and Bonnie moved to Coeur d’Alene, where he enjoyed gardening.
Alex was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bonnie, in 2015. He is survived by his daughter, Alexis Oates of Coeur d’Alene; his son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Rebecca Oates of Camas, Wash.; his grandchildren, Travis Oates and Caroline Oates; and various nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 4, 2017, at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens, 7315 N. Government Way, Coeur d’Alene, with Yates Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Alex’s memory be made to the Union Gospel Mission, Meals on Wheels or other charitable organizations.
