Kay Elaine Alexander Horn, 83

Kay Elaine Alexander Horn, formerly of Boulder, Colo., and Hayden, Idaho, passed away Dec. 25, 2017, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Mrs. Horn was born Sept. 14, 1934, to Harlan “Ab” and A. Ione Alexander in St. Maries, Idaho.

Kay married James Horn in 1956. She completed her bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene from the University of Iowa, and then moved to Boulder where she practiced for 38 years.

Kay and Jim were blessed with two daughters for whom she was an active Girl Scout leader, 4-H leader and Boulder High School band volunteer. She loved gardening, sewing, hiking, reading and spending time with family and friends. She was an incredibly involved and loving mother.

Kay is survived by her daughter, Diane (Dave) Gibson of Woodbridge, Va.; son-in-law Jon Vicklund of Kirkland, Wash.; brother Garry Alexander of San Diego, Calif.; brother Dean Alexander of Otis Orchards, Wash.; and six grandsons, David, Erik and Peter Vicklund of the Seattle area, and Daniel, Michael and Matthew Gibson of Woodbridge; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter Deborah Vicklund; her parents; sisters Lois Brown, Phyllis Wagoner, Arlene Smith and Jean Knowles; and brother Lynn Alexander.

Her family rejoices in her release from her 15-year battle with Alzheimer’s and will celebrate her reunion in heaven with her departed loved ones at a funeral service on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene Chapel, 744 N. Fourth St., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. A viewing will be held at 10 a.m. with funeral services at 11 a.m. A graveside service will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in St. Maries.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity honoring the fight against Alzheimer’s, Breast Cancer or ALS.
