Donna (Burch) Quane, 86
Donna May (Burch) Quane, 86, of Hayden Lake, Idaho, passed away at her home on Jan. 23, 2018. She was born May 2, 1931, in Spokane, Wash., the second of seven daughters born to Raymond and Ruth (Sharp) Burch.
Donna grew up in Spokane and Coeur d’Alene, and graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1949. Growing up, her sisters nicknamed her “Bunny,” and from then on she had a love for bunnies. She graduated from the University of Idaho in 1953. After college, Donna worked as a flight attendant for United Airlines, and traveled all around the country. She enjoyed airplanes, traveling and loved meeting new people.
Donna married Don Quane on Jan. 6, 1957, in Coeur d’Alene. Don was an Air Force pilot, and for the next 26 years they would travel the globe with the Air Force. She gave birth to her son, David, while Don was stationed in Florida in 1966. During those years, Donna enjoyed entertaining and was very active in the Officers’ Wives Clubs and local community organizations. She was a 50-year member of the AV chapter of PEO.
In recent winters, she would rent the house next door to her sister, Phyllis, in Wallace, so she could spend more time with her sisters and their families, and for holidays fly to see her son and his family in Mill Creek, Wash. Donna and her family were lifelong Vandal fans, and attended many football games and alumni activities over the years; Donna also loved the Chicago Bears.
She had a passion for collecting and preserving family heirlooms, as well as always wearing her favorite shade of pink lipstick, and wearing her angel pin, something all of her sisters wore to keep each other close. She always seemed the happiest when with her sisters, as well as with her husband and son.
She enjoyed finding new pathways in her faith with God, and maintained that strong faith throughout her life. She spent a large amount of her life in the Washington and Idaho area, a place that she truly felt at home. She was able to point to anything and would recall a fond memory that happened there when she was growing up.
Donna is survived by her sisters, Phyllis Peters of Wallace and Ruth Carole Hayman of Osburn; son and daughter-in-law David and Jill Quane, and three grandchildren, Austin, Audrey and Lauren Quane, all of Mill Creek; her sisters-in-law, Pat Ringe and Joanne Finberg; and brother-in-law Chuck Carlson.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish can remember Donna with a donation to the Kootenai Humane Society. Donations can be made online at kootenaihumanesociety.com.
