Bernidene ‘Berni’ Dami, 88

Berni, fondly known as Nonna by her family, went to be with the Lord on Feb. 16, 2018. She was born June 3, 1929, in Lebanon, Tenn. to Jack and Rose Malone.

They moved to the Bay Area in Northern California where she would finish her high school years. She soon started working and met Pete Dami, the love of her life. They were married and, 10 years later, had their son, Daniel.

They moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1964. Berni stayed home with Dan until he went to kindergarten. It was then that Berni started working for Mr. Duane Hagadone. She worked as his executive secretary for 48 years. She finally retired at the age of 86, but only because her family and Duane made her. Berni was extremely well known in the community and was a true ambassador to the city. She developed friends all over the world throughout the years.

She served on the Board of Rotary and in the St. Thomas Church, and was the recipient of many awards over the years for her service and professionalism.

Nonna loved to be with her family and would do anything for them at any time. Our most fond memories are the great dinners she would make and the holidays we all spent together.

Berni loved to go camping with Pete and go fishing at the Coeur d’Alene River. She was always content with the simplest things in life. Sleeping in a tent or in the back of the truck was fine with her.

Berni is survived by her loving husband, Peter, of 66 years; sister, Eunice; son, Daniel; daughter-in-law, Carisa; grandsons, Brayden and Skylar; granddaughter, Danielle married to Joe Hanstad and soon-to-be great-grandson, “Baby” Hanstad.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 2, 2018, at St. Thomas Catholic Church. A reception will follow at the Coeur d’Alene Resort Hotel.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice of North Idaho.

Yates Funeral Homes has been entrusted with the care of the arrangements. Please visit Berni’s memorial and sign her online guestbook at
