Our beloved Paula Jane Broeckel, 48, stepped into her eternal after-life on Dec. 13, 2011, at her home in Spokane. Paula was born Feb. 10, 1963, in Coeur d'Alene., where she grew up.
Paula and Russ Broeckel were married in 1986, moving to Seattle for several years before returning to Spokane. Paula worked as an assistant to optometrists in Coeur d'Alene, Bellevue, Wash., and Spokane. She was a kind and conscientious worker who truly made each patient feel important, taking care of their needs.
Paula enjoyed people, especially her favorite cousin, Brian O'Riley. Gathering with family and friends and entertaining in her home brought her a peaceful pleasure. In 2004 Paula re-dedicated her life to Christ at a church pastured by Casey Treat. That was truly a blessed event. Paula had a great affection for her dog, Tundra, who was a faithful companion to the end of her all too short life. Reading, going to the movies and eating out were just a few of her favorite pastimes. Her smile, her laughter and her great sense of humor made her a joy to be around. She will be greatly missed.
Paula had just undergone major surgery at Sacred Heart on Nov. 11, 2011. Her stay at the hospital was 22 days and she was quite happy when sent home to finish her recovery. Her death was sudden and unexpected but she went peacefully in her sleep.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Glen D. and Alice E. O'Riley.
Paula is survived by her husband, Russ Broeckel; her two sisters, Pamela and husband Bill Guier, and Patti and husband Paul Singer; her grandmother, Ada Linn; aunts, uncles and cousins; brother-in-law Dennis Broeckel; sister-in-law Shari Rasmussen and niece's Kelly Rasmussen, and Janie and husband Kris Pryor. We must also add Paula's most cherished Tundra Bear, a 45-pound Lowland Polish Sheepdog.
Viewing will be held from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d'Alene Chapel. Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 19, 2011, also at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d'Alene Chapel.
