Kathleen Mary Spadt, 68, passed away on March 13, 2013, at Kootenai Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She was born in Spokane on Nov. 16, 1944, to Frank and Rose (Kohel) Burke.

She is survived by her sisters: Patricia Schroeder, Sally Cogdill and Beverly Bakken, all of Spokane; and her two loving daughters: Christie Fakrieh (Ryan) and Barbara Aparicio, both of Post Falls. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Maria, Christian, Alainna, Gabrille, Caitlin and Bryan. She was preceded in death by her parents and her younger infant brother, Daniel Burke.

Kathy was a native of Coeur d’Alene and graduated from Academy of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Coeur d’Alene in 1962. She retired from Frontier Communications (previously GTE/Verizon) in September 2012, following employment at Appleway (Valley) Volkswagen in Spokane and First Federal Savings Bank in Coeur d’Alene. Her parents owned and operated the Shamrock Bar on Sherman Avenue in Coeur d'Alene while she was growing up.

Kathy married Robert Riplinger in 1964 and they adopted a daughter named Barbara. After they divorced in 1978, she married Gerald Spadt in 1980 and had a daughter named Christie. They divorced in 1991 and she lived a happy single life thereafter.

Kathy enjoyed socializing with family and friends and, especially, adored spending time with all of her loving grandchildren. She will be extremely missed by her family and friends.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene. Father Roger LaChance will be officiating. Graveside services will follow immediately at St. Thomas Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene.

Kathy was passionate about the mission of St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital; accordingly, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in her memory at 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
