Coeur d’Alene dutifully continues to atone for its past transgressions of bigotry and racism. Its latest act of contrition is the proposed rainbow arch to McEuen Field — a fine gesture of begging for forgiveness.
But more reparation and groveling is needed. Not until some Fourth of July parade when a gay pride contingent of males in women’s underwear prances proudly down Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard (formerly Sherman Avenue) will the sins of Coeur d’Alene finally be washed away and its lily-white soul become correctly muddy as the Mississippi. Then will hate be vanquished in our little city of excellence.
